Abie the Agent
This Sunday strip follows Abie, a scheming New York hustler navigating the commercial chaos of early 20th-century city life. The narrative unfolds across six panels showing Abie's attempts to sell a "diamond" pin and exact revenge on his rival—a story told through overlapping dialogue, physical comedy, and rapid-fire action. The strip exemplifies the visual vocabulary that newspaper comics pioneered: distinct panel borders, expressive speech balloons anchored to speakers, and recurring characters pursuing ongoing schemes. The loose, kinetic drawing style captures movement and personality through caricature and gestural line work, techniques that defined the medium's emergence from vaudeville and dime novels into a uniquely American art form of the newspaper age.
