This newspaper comic strip follows Abie, a tenement-dwelling character navigating urban life and small dealings. The strip's humor relies on physical comedy and situational gags—here, Abie's schemes involve a hospital visit and his interactions with doctors and patients. By the 1910s, such strips populated American newspapers, establishing the language of comics: panel progression, expressive line work, and recurring characters that allowed readers to follow ongoing narratives in serialized form.
