Abie the Agent

A seven-panel daily strip following a real estate agent navigating client relations. The protagonist moves through each frame soliciting and defending his professional opinion, only to be interrupted and contradicted at every turn. The strip employs the visual conventions that defined early newspaper comics: uniform panel grids, speech balloons carrying dialogue and thought, and a recurring character placed in escalating comedic situations. By the 1910s, such strips had become the primary laboratory for developing sequential art's visual language—techniques that would directly structure the comic books emerging in the following decades.
