Abie the Agent

A daily comic strip following a character navigating urban commerce and misadventure. The six-panel sequence uses sequential art conventions—consistent character design, speech balloons, and panel-to-panel narrative progression—that became foundational to comic strip language. The strip's humor turns on visual gags and character reaction: a man discovers his money missing, searches frantically through increasingly absurd locations, and confronts an accomplice who offers a deadpan excuse. The linear progression and reliance on both image and dialogue to convey story exemplify how newspaper comics of the 1910s-20s established visual storytelling grammar that would define the medium for generations.
