Abie the Agent
A Sunday strip following Abie, a street-smart agent navigating urban commerce and social encounters. The narrative unfolds across nine panels with sequential action: Abie explains a printed bill of fares to a patron, debates the document's contents, and ultimately resolves the conflict through negotiation. The strip employs speech balloons, panel borders, and recurring character types—the agent, the customer, supporting figures—establishing visual and narrative continuity. Abie the Agent represents the humor-driven newspaper comic of the 1910s, when daily and Sunday strips became the primary laboratory for comics' visual language: economical linework, readable lettering, clear scene staging, and comedic timing expressed through sequential panels. Strips like this demonstrated how comics could sustain character-driven stories within tight editorial space.
