· Early 20th century

This comic strip demonstrates the visual conventions that emerged from newspaper comics' evolution into sequential art. The six-panel layout uses speech balloons, recurring characters, and panel-to-panel narrative flow—techniques pioneered in the Sunday newspaper pages that established the visual language of comics. The domestic setting and sight gags reflect the humor style of early strips, relying on physical comedy and character interaction. The consistent linework and simple backgrounds show how newspaper cartoonists optimized their art for reproduction while maintaining character recognition across panels. Such strips formed the direct precursor to the comic book format that would consolidate these narrative and visual strategies into bound publications.
