Newspaper Comic Strips: Three Examples

These three strips—*Barnacle Bros*, *Mermaid Magic*, and *Hillmer & Holmes*—exemplify the newspaper comic strip format that shaped modern sequential art. Each uses the fundamental grammar developed by early comics pioneers: bordered panels that guide narrative flow, speech balloons for dialogue, and recurring characters in episodic situations.
