Billy the Boy Artist
In this Sunday strip, Billy attempts to sketch a Thanksgiving turkey but encounters a series of domestic mishaps. His drawing breaks a window, gets dismissed as "too high," and ultimately lands him in a pile of real turkeys. The strip's six-panel grid and sequential gags exemplify the visual narrative techniques that emerged from newspaper comics in the early twentieth century. Speech balloons convey character voices and advance the story across panels, while slapstick humor drives the plot. Billy's recurring role as an aspiring young artist provided newspapers with relatable, child-centered comedy that appealed to family audiences reading the Sunday funnies.
