Bobby Make-Believe
This Sunday strip follows young Bobby as his imagination transforms a library book about wild animals into vivid adventure. The narrative unfolds across nine panels: Bobby reads about beasts, his fantasy erupts into a jungle encounter with a growling lion, and the animal becomes his unlikely ally against poachers. The artist uses dynamic compositions and dramatic black-and-white contrast to shift between Bobby's mundane world and his imagined peril. Recurring character strips like this one established the visual vocabulary of sequential art—panel borders, speech balloons, and expressive animal characters—that became foundational to comic strip language and, later, the comic book form itself.
