Bobby Make-Believe
This Sunday comic strip follows a child's fantasy adventure inspired by fairy-tale reading. The narrative unfolds across nine panels in a grid layout characteristic of the era's newspaper comics, combining sequential art with text-driven storytelling. Bobby imagines himself rescuing a princess from an ogre's castle, with the adventure rendered through expressive line work and bold blacks typical of early twentieth-century illustration. The strip demonstrates the visual conventions emerging in newspaper comics: discrete panels advancing a plot, speech balloons conveying dialogue, and recurring characters. Such Sunday pages, distributed nationally through syndication, established the visual and narrative templates that would define comic strips and later inform the comic book form itself.
