George McManus's linework is crisp and elegant, the figures broad-shouldered and rubbery, speech balloons neatly integrated into spare backgrounds. *Bringing Up Father* launched in 1913 and ran for decades, syndicated nationally — part of the daily newspaper strip ecosystem that taught readers worldwide to parse sequential panels, track recurring characters, and read left-to-right visual narrative. Those newspaper pages were the direct ancestor of the comic book format that would crystallize in the late 1930s.
