Four panels track a domestic squall: Maggie threatens to hurl rotten tomatoes at a shopkeeper, then turns on Jiggs for talking silly ('you are getting more like your father every day'), while outside a small dog barks *WOOF* at a passing figure who whispers *PS-T*, and a final encounter ends with 'None of your business!' McManus's line work is loose and kinetic — hatched shading, expressive hair, elastic limbs. Launched in 1913, *Bringing Up Father* was among the first strips to anchor recurring domestic characters across decades of daily continuity. These syndicated daily strips, collected and reprinted in pamphlet form, directly seeded the format that became the American comic book.
