Four panels track Jiggs and Maggie's domestic crisis: alarmed by neighborhood burglaries, Maggie insists they move; Jiggs dutifully contacts a moving company; a checkered-aproned mover itemizes costs — $500 packing, $400 hauling and labor, $100 unpacking, piano extra — leaving Jiggs goggle-eyed; in the final panel he telephones Maggie to report he has just encountered one of the burglars (the mover himself, implicitly). McManus's line is fluid and decorative, his figures broad and expressive. Launched in 1913, *Bringing Up Father* was among the first strips syndicated globally, its recurring cast and serialized domestic comedy directly modeling the character-driven continuity that early comic-book anthologies would repackage for newsstands by the mid-1930s.
