Cross-hatched linework and crowded, energetic compositions are pure McManus — the same draftsmanship that made *Bringing Up Father* one of the longest-running strips in syndication, launching in 1913. Jiggs and Maggie's world helped standardize the daily comic-strip format: uniform panel grids, integrated speech balloons, and recurring ensemble characters — structural conventions that migrant editors later bound into pamphlets, inventing the comic book.
