He notes it takes her six weeks of his time to pack her trunks, then collapses into an armchair relieved they're finally done. Last panel: Maggie, imperious in evening wear, asks which suit hides his address book — implying the bags must be reopened. George McManus drew *Bringing Up Father* from 1913 until his death in 1954, his sinuous Art Nouveau linework and recurring domestic warfare making it one of the longest-running and most widely syndicated strips in history — a direct ancestor of the comic-book page format that grew from the newspaper daily.
