The final panel finds him at the Hytone elevator, phoning Maggie to announce he's signing the lease immediately — his small rebellion reversed into cheerful capitulation. George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913, drawing on vaudeville's Irish-immigrant archetypes. His fluid Art Nouveau linework, decorative wallpapers, and precisely lettered balloon placement became a worldwide template. By 1937 the strip ran in over 750 papers globally, its recurring characters and sequential panel grammar foundational to what would shortly migrate into the first comic books.
