George McManus's line work is elegant — swooping Art Deco silhouettes, expressive caricature, and immaculate speech balloons anchoring every beat. Launched in 1913, *Bringing Up Father* ran for nearly nine decades and helped standardize the daily comic strip format — the very template from which the comic book, as a reprinted-strip anthology, directly descended.
