Four panels follow the strip's familiar duo — the parvenu Jiggs and a visitor — through a comic escalation involving a movie camera Jiggs has brought to his office. The visitor insists on examining it; by the final panel the office is a shambles and Jiggs, hair electrified with rage, ejects him. McManus's draftsmanship is distinctive: crisp ink lines, decorative cross-hatching on waistcoats, and expressive silhouette work in the darkened last panel. Speech balloons carry the rhythmic dialect spelling McManus favored. *Bringing Up Father*, launched in 1913, was among the first newspaper strips to achieve worldwide syndication, its recurring characters and domestic-conflict formula directly shaping the anthology reprint pamphlets of the 1930s that became the comic book.
