George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913, building its visual signature around Art Nouveau–inflected figures, extravagant spotted gowns, and the sharp contrast between social aspiration and comic deflation. The strip ran continuously for decades, its domestic gags delivered through McManus's elegant brushwork and precisely timed balloon placement.
