McManus draws in his characteristic art-deco silhouette style: bold black shadows, decorative wallpaper, Maggie's outsized pearls and plumes rendered with fluid, almost illustrative line work. *Bringing Up Father* launched in 1913 and ran continuously for decades, making it one of the longest daily strips in syndication history. George McManus refined the recurring-character domestic comedy that King Features distributed to hundreds of papers simultaneously — the industrial newspaper syndicate system that supplied the page inventory from which the first comic books were assembled, literally cut-and-reprinted, in the early 1930s.
