George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913 for King Features Syndicate; it ran in hundreds of papers worldwide for decades. McManus's clean Art Nouveau line work, inventive panel architecture, and domestic comedy helped establish the daily comic strip as a distinct narrative form — the direct ancestor of the comic book page.
