George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* for King Features in 1913, running it nearly until his death in 1954. McManus's draftsmanship — sinuous Art Nouveau linework, elegantly dressed figures, bold geometric furniture — distinguished the strip visually among its peers. Daily strips like this one fed directly into the first comic book reprints of the 1930s, making McManus one of the founding architects of the sequential-art page.
