George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913, running it for decades as one of the longest-lived daily strips in American syndication. Its tight panel-to-panel staging, expressive speech balloons, and recurring cast of Jiggs and Maggie helped establish the visual conventions — compressed narrative, character-driven comedy, consistent graphic voice — that newspaper dailies carried directly into the first comic books of the late 1930s.
