Final panel: Jiggs howls "OW!" McManus's draftsmanship is unmistakable — Art Nouveau flourishes on Maggie's gown, crosshatched upholstery, expressive rubber-limbed figures. Launched in 1913, *Bringing Up Father* ran for nearly nine decades, syndicated worldwide. Sunday pages like this one were the direct commercial and artistic seedbed of the comic book: recurring characters, sequential panels, speech balloons — the entire visual grammar assembled on newsprint before the stapled pamphlet existed.
