Jiggs dutifully buys the full St. Paul snow-sport outfit Maggie demands — coat, skates, skis, bobsled, hotel — totaling $690; then Maggie announces she has changed her mind and they leave for Florida instead, leaving Jiggs buried in useless gear. George McManus drew *Bringing Up Father* continuously from 1913 until his death in 1954, making it one of the longest-running strips in syndication history. McManus's clean art-nouveau line, cluttered interiors, and tightly choreographed panel-to-panel reversals were widely imitated. Sunday pages like this one — printed at full broadsheet scale with rich cross-hatching — were the direct commercial and visual ancestor of the gathered comic books that followed within a decade.
