Jiggs returns, suddenly inspired to sightsee *today* in case it rains tomorrow, catching Maggie mid-song. George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913, running it for over four decades. His clean brush line, expressive silhouettes, and locked-in domestic sparring helped establish the recurring-character daily strip as American popular literature — the direct seedbed from which comic books, reprinting such strips, first grew.
