Four panels follow Jiggs and Maggie at a hotel where a beauty contest is about to open. Jiggs slips out for a newsstand; in the lobby he encounters glamorous contest arrivals and compliments one by saying she looks just like Margie — his daughter. The final panel finds Maggie, arms crossed, ordering him to pack: they are leaving. George McManus drew *Bringing Up Father* from 1913 until his death in 1954, his ligne-claire linework and Art Nouveau ornament making it one of the most recognizable strips in syndication. The daily newspaper strip — not the comic book — invented the visual grammar later generations inherited: repeating characters, sequential panels, speech balloons, and a reliable punch on the final beat.
