Three panels: Jiggs, in his perpetual checked suit and bowler, endures yacht life with Maggie, the upwardly mobile wife who torments him with pretension. She announces a piano on board and the revival of her singing; in the final panel Jiggs has jumped ship entirely — rowing frantically away in a dinghy while Maggie shouts from the deck. McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913, and its clean Art Nouveau linework, expressive silhouettes, and domestic-battle formula ran for decades. Sunday pages like this one — with their sequenced panels and speech balloons — were the direct template from which the comic book format was assembled and sold.
