George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913, and it ran for nearly nine decades — one of the longest continuous comic strips in history. This daily strip follows the strip's signature domestic comedy: Jiggs and Maggie entangled in a real-estate muddle involving their son-in-law. Three tight horizontal panels carry the gag, with speech balloons packed with overlapping revelation — property sold to a banker, resold for twice the price, and Jiggs's rueful punchline that he held it too briefly. McManus's clean pen line, decorative black-spot shading, and expressive rubber-limbed figures were enormously influential.
