Two sequences appear here: a daily continuity following a lovesick man wrestling with whether to call on 'Rosie,' and a Sunday page featuring Jiggs and Maggie's familiar domestic warfare — crowded parlors, snow-bound school mornings, streetcar crowds, and Maggie's broom chasing Jiggs out of the yard. George McManus launched *Bringing Up Father* in 1913 for King Features Syndicate, running it until his death in 1954. McManus's sinuous Art Nouveau linework — curlicued wallpaper, elegantly dressed figures, confident brushwork — set a visual standard for the syndicated Sunday page. The strip's recurring gag of a nouveau-riche Irish immigrant couple navigating high society ran in hundreds of papers worldwide and fed directly into the first comic book reprint collections of the 1930s.
