Richard F. Outcault—who had already launched the modern comic strip with *The Yellow Kid* in 1895—introduced Buster Brown to *New York Herald* Sunday readers in 1902. This page shows Buster packed off to Grandma's, only to sneak off the train on the far side while his mother watches from the platform. Nine panels carry the gag through luggage-laden farewells, a dining-car passage, and a tearful reunion, ending with Buster's written "Resolved" confession. Outcault's clean ink line, expressive figures, and integrated speech balloons exemplify the visual syntax these Sunday pages were inventing in real time—the same recurring character, sequential panels, and typeset dialogue that would migrate directly into the first comic books thirty years later.
