Outcault's Buster Brown follows the mischievous boy and his bulldog Tige through a full-page Sunday adventure. Here Buster is sent to the butcher for a steak; the meat is seized by a pack of neighborhood dogs mid-chase, touching off a chaotic multi-panel scramble. The strip closes with Buster's signature *Resolved!* panel—a mock moral vow, this time to become a vegetarian. Outcault, who had already invented the modern newspaper comic with *The Yellow Kid*, refined the form here: consistent characters, sequential panels, integrated speech balloons, and a punchline coda. Sunday color pages like this one, collected and reprinted as pamphlets, laid the direct structural and commercial foundation for the American comic book.
