Buster Brown on Uncle Jack's Farm — Richard F. Outcault's *Buster Brown* ran in the New York Herald beginning 1902, making it one of the earliest recurring-character Sunday strips. This full-page episode follows Buster, his dog Tige, and a basket of rotten eggs through twelve numbered panels: a farm errand goes wrong, a grocer is swindled, eggs shatter on the floor, and adults chase the unapologetic boy before the strip's signature 'Resolved' moral closes proceedings — written in Buster's own voice, always ironic. Outcault had already pioneered the speech balloon with *The Yellow Kid* (1895); here he refines sequential panel grammar, varied compositions, and recurring cast. Sunday color pages like this one were the direct commercial and formal ancestor of the comic book format that emerged in the 1930s.
