R.F. Outcault's Buster Brown ran in the *New York Herald* and helped define the American Sunday comics page as a distinct visual form. This strip, titled *He Attends a Reception*, follows the well-dressed, scheming Buster and his bulldog Tige as they sabotage a theatrical hall benefit by rigging a flour bag to shower the stage during a recitation of *Snow, Snow, Beautiful Snow*. Eight panels carry the prank from grocery errand to cloudy catastrophe, closing with Buster's signature sardonic "Resolved" moral. Outcault—already famous for *The Yellow Kid*—refined the recurring-cast strip, the speech balloon integrated into drawn space, and the punchline panel sequence that cartoonists would use for the next century.
