Richard Outcault's Buster Brown ran as a full Sunday page in the *New York Herald*, and this strip follows the household through a single night in half-hour increments — 9:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. — as a wildly patterned 'crazy quilt' terrorizes everyone trying to sleep. The quilt writhes, attacks, and finally forces a reckoning, with Buster closing the strip in his trademark 'Resolved' monologue. Outcault had already invented the modern comic strip with *The Yellow Kid* (1895); here his clean draftsmanship, strict panel grid, and integrated speech balloons show the visual grammar that Sunday newspaper pages exported directly into the first comic books thirty years later.
