Richard Outcault's *Buster Brown* ran as a full-page Sunday feature in the New York Herald, and this eight-panel strip shows Buster, his dog Tige, and a shipboard misadventure involving an open monkey cage. The sequence escalates from polite curiosity at the cage to full shipboard chaos, monkeys swarming rigging and sailors alike, before Buster delivers his signature closing "Resolved" moral in a text box — here wryly equating monkey behavior with stock-exchange crowds and college baseball fans. Outcault, who had already invented the modern comic strip with *The Yellow Kid* (1895), refined here the recurring cast, sequential panel flow, and speech balloon conventions that Sunday newspaper pages handed directly to the first comic books of the 1930s. The strip's clean cross-hatching and confident spatial staging mark it as fully mature newspaper-comics craft.
