Outcault's *Buster Brown*, syndicated through the New York Herald, follows the mischievous boy and his dog Tige through a full-page Sunday adventure set in what appears to be an exotic tropical locale. Eight panels trace a comic arc: Buster and Tige encounter local workers, negotiate a rope-and-pulley contraption, convert it into a swing, and Buster is launched skyward before plunging into water. The strip closes with Outcault's signature 'Resolved' moral, delivered straight-faced after mayhem. Outcault had already invented the modern newspaper comic with *The Yellow Kid* (1895), establishing recurring characters, sequential panels, and integrated speech balloons — the precise visual grammar that Sunday supplement pages would hand directly to the comic book format emerging two decades later.
