Citizen Fixit
This Sunday newspaper comic follows Citizen Fixit's encounter with a woman holding up the ticket office line. Across four panels, the strip establishes its humor through physical comedy and dialogue: the protagonist confronts the woman, she explains her delay, he lectures her on proper public conduct, and chaos erupts. The artist employs sequential panel layout with speech balloons to convey narrative action and gags—visual conventions that became foundational to comic art. Recurring characters in funny situations, published in newspapers nationwide, strips like this reached millions of readers and established the visual language that would define twentieth-century comics.
