Cynthianna Blythe
A Sunday newspaper comic strip drawn by Wallace Morgan, Yerkes, and Harry Grant Dart. The narrative follows young Cynthianna through eight sequential panels: encounters with a mule, romantic entanglement with Cambis, mishaps at a picnic, and a climactic meeting with the mysterious "old Lancelot" in the woods. The strip employs the visual conventions that defined early newspaper comics—panel borders, speech balloons, expressive line work, and recurring characters. By 1909, such strips had become staples of Sunday editions, establishing narrative and visual grammar that would shape the emerging comic book medium. The crowded composition and dense text reflect the serial storytelling traditions of newspaper dailies adapted for the larger Sunday page format.
