The Diary of Snubs, Our Dog
This Sunday strip follows Snubs, a dog character narrating his day through sequential panels. The narrative arc—from waiting at school pickup, to his mother's search, to independent investigation, culminating in mischief at the grocer—unfolds across six panels in the visual grammar that defined early newspaper comics. Recurring characters, speech balloons, and expressive line work convey action and emotion without dialogue. The strip exemplifies the Sunday comics format that emerged in the 1890s, where artists developed the visual vocabulary of panel layout, pacing, and personality-driven humor that would become foundational to the comic book medium.
