This Sunday newspaper strip illustrates early-twentieth-century comic art at the threshold of the modern comic book. The left panel employs dense cross-hatching and exaggerated caricature; the right features cherubs and ornamental frames typical of decorative newspaper illustration. Both panels deploy speech balloons and sequential framing—visual devices that newspapers were still standardizing. The strip's title and layout structure claim the full page width, a format distinct from later panel grids. The artist's energetic linework and the strip's focus on sight gags and visual narrative established conventions that would define newspaper comics and eventually the comic book industry itself.
