A Few More Lemons at a Cent Apiece
· March 4, 1907

F. G. Long's *A Few More Lemons* exemplifies the Sunday newspaper comic strip format at its peak: four sequential panels starring a recurring character in a toy car, each panel a self-contained gag built on visual wordplay and slapstick. The strip employs the visual vocabulary codified in the 1890s—articulated speech balloons, exaggerated facial expressions, and motion lines—that transformed newspaper comics from simple illustrations into a narrative medium. Published in *The Evening Budge*, this strip demonstrates how newspaper comics generated their own characters and continuities, establishing the template that would structure the emerging comic book industry.
