A Few More Lemons at a Cent Apiece
A four-panel newspaper comic strip by F. G. Long featuring a rotund character in a checkered outfit responding to newspaper headlines with physical comedy. Each panel frames a newspaper clipping—"To Arrest Millionaires," "Fire Panic on L Train," "Jerome Reads a Paranoiac," "Thaw Skips"—followed by the character's exaggerated pantomime reaction. The strip exemplifies early-1900s daily comic conventions: sequential panels with speech balloons, a recurring protagonist, sight gags dependent on topical news items, and expressive line work. Such strips populated Sunday funnies and daily papers, establishing visual storytelling techniques that became foundational to the emerging comic book format.
