Merrill Blosser's *Freckles and His Friends* ran as a daily and Sunday strip beginning in 1915, following a mischievous boy and his gang through small-town adventures. This January 1925 installment shows Freckles caught between his mother's logic and his own plea to keep a stray dog—a domestic conflict resolved through childhood reasoning. Blosser's strip exemplified the comedy-adventure formula that dominated newspaper comics in the early twentieth century.
