The Goat Family Has Luncheon
This Sunday comic strip depicts a family of anthropomorphic goats preparing and consuming a meal, rendered in the pen-and-ink style typical of early newspaper comics. The six-panel layout employs speech balloons and sequential narrative to follow the family's activities—measuring ingredients, cooking, and gathering around food. The strip exemplifies the visual conventions developed in newspaper comics of the 1900s: recurring characters, panel progression, and sight gags dependent on exaggerated animal behavior. Such strips populated American Sunday supplements, establishing the formal and narrative structures that would define comic books and comic art for generations to come.
