Grimes's Goat
This Sunday strip follows the escalating chaos of Grimes and his troublemaking goat through six densely packed panels. The narrative progresses from domestic mishap to automotive disaster—the goat wrecks a car, causes collisions, and leaves a trail of destruction. Steinigans employs the established visual language of early newspaper comics: sequential panels, speech balloons, sight gags, and recurring characters. The strip's rapid escalation and physical comedy typify the slapstick humor of early-1910s Sunday pages. Such strips were foundational to comic book development, establishing how artists could tell stories through arranged panels and visual narrative flow—conventions that would define the medium for decades.
