Harold Teen

Harold Teen follows the domestic misadventures of a teenage boy and his family. Here, Harold's mother scolds him for arriving home at eighteen—only six months old—while his father recounts the tale of Allis Figgered, who waited four years to marry a woman with holy cats and a boat, before proposing to land a job in Omaha. The strip employs the visual vocabulary perfected in newspaper comics: distinct panel divisions, expressive character poses, speech balloons conveying personality and dialect. Harold Teen exemplifies the daily and Sunday newspaper strip format that became the direct ancestor of the modern comic book, establishing recurring characters and serialized storytelling as entertainment staples.
