Harold Teen follows a young man navigating jobs and romance in the Jazz Age. In this strip, Harold lands work and seeks a ride from a friend, who offers transport in a toy-sized car—a visual gag playing on scale and the era's fascination with automobiles. Carl Ed's comic employs the newspaper strip's standard grammar: sequential panels, speech balloons, and recurring characters in everyday situations. The strip's domestic comedy and relatable protagonist exemplified how newspaper dailies and Sunday pages created a new mass medium, establishing visual conventions that would define comics for decades. Harold Teen ran from 1921 to 1959, reflecting American popular culture through the Depression and postwar periods.
