Home Wanted by a Baby!
This Sunday strip by Clare Victor Dwiggins follows a chaotic sequence as a foundling baby disrupts a household, moving through six panels that escalate from discovery to pandemonium. The artist employs the visual vocabulary of early newspaper comics: distinct rectangular panels, speech balloons carrying dialogue and sound effects ("WOW!"), and exaggerated character expressions and poses. A cast of recurring types—harried parents, servants, and the mischievous infant—enact slapstick gags typical of the era's humor. Dwiggins's loose, energetic line work and compositional variety across panels demonstrate the formal innovations emerging in newspaper strips during the 1910s, when syndicated daily and Sunday pages became the primary laboratory for developing the sequential art techniques that would define the comic book medium.
