The Ins and Outs of Coffee and Sinkers

A six-panel Sunday strip following the mishaps of a family navigating domestic life around coffee and doughnuts. The narrative unfolds through sequential action: children request breakfast treats, adults react to spills and chaos in the kitchen and bathroom, culminating in slapstick mayhem as water splashes across multiple rooms. The strip employs the standard visual vocabulary of early newspaper comics—distinct panels with speech balloons, exaggerated expressions, and dynamic line work to convey motion and surprise. Recurring child characters appear throughout, anchoring reader investment in their weekly adventures. This format, pioneered by strips in the 1890s–1900s, established the grammar of panel layout and character continuity that would define American comic art for generations.
